The countdown begins

Although the Hundred Years' War ended in 1453, the Siege of Beauvais in 1472 was part of a separate, intense power struggle between the French Crown and the expanding Duchy of Burgundy. Burgundian troops, led by Charles the Bold, were fighting at Beauvais because of his ambition to transform Burgundy from a French vassal state into an independent kingdom, a goal that directly conflicted with King Louis XI’s efforts to consolidate power over France…👧 The Defender with the Axe: Jeanne Hachette

🪓 Knocked a Burgundian soldier off the walls and tore down their banner with her axe.

🛡️ Her courage rallied the Beauvais town's women to fight alongside the men with boiling oil and stones.

⚔️ Forced the powerful Charles the Bold to retreat after a month of failed assaults.

👑 King Louis XI granted her the title "Hachette" and exempted her town from taxes.

🏛️ Every June, Beauvais holds a "Procession of the Assault" to honor the girl who saved their city.
